The heat shield is a tray used to insulate your fire from whatever surface you want to use it on. It uses water to stop any heat that radiates down from your drum.

Tip – some people use the heat shield to double as a tabletop. The only drawback is you must wait for the drum is cool before being able to remove it from the tray.

Pick a level spot.

Place tray on 4 bricks, or similar stable, non-flammable supporting material.

Fill tray with water. Always make sure tray is at least three-quarters full of water.
